AI reporting added to a system already in use, in one week
The practice already ran the logging app I built, but every new reporting question meant coming back to me for a new button or filter. In one week I added an AI assistant that answers questions on the real data, builds and saves reports on request, and turns them into PowerPoint or PDF presentations.
The problem
The practice was already running the logging app I built, but the COO and I discovered a gap in the reporting suite. As different one-off reporting needs appeared, my client had to keep coming to me to add a new button, filter, etc. to the reporting suite I had built into the app. This was inefficient for both of us.
What I built
An AI reporting suite. This suite had two different components. First, it securely integrated an AI assistant running Claude Sonnet 5. This assistant served as an in-app chat that was able to look at the real data and answer the COO's specific questions. Since the assistant was trained on the existing platform, it understood the practice's internal language and how to derive complex data. It was then able to create reports, presentations, and other files on demand. This assistant gave the COO an entirely different way to interact with their data that they've never had before. It became an on-demand analyst.
Second, I added the same assistant to the existing reporting suite. Then I upgraded the suite, giving it a pivot-style builder. This allowed the COO to create the reports they needed and save them for later use. COOs are busy though, and don't always have the time to drag and drop variables until a report looks how they want. That's where the assistant came in. I taught the assistant how to use that same reporting suite the COO could, and instead of having to create reports themselves, the COO was able to just explain to the assistant the exact report they wanted, and the assistant would build it, freeing up time. As the final layer, I added the ability to combine multiple reports into one PowerPoint or PDF presentation.
Results
This took what was a basic reporting suite with limited customization and no saved reports and gave my client an AI assistant that could answer on-demand questions, generate documents, and create reports that could be saved for later use. It turned what was just a static reporting page into a dynamic way to interact with their data.
